Wnuk Spurlock is an architecture and design firm that is attentive to both the practical and fanciful dreams of the client. We are proud of our ability to efficiently solve problems for clients while offering them a unique design vision. Over twenty-five years of experience with a variety of projects, combined with our ability to listen carefully and design cooperatively, has given us the expertise to offer solutions that please the client and integrate within their context, whether contemporary or historic in nature.
Our goal is client satisfaction. Through a collaborative process, we guide clients from initial idea sketches to completed structures with the benefit and insight of experience. Working with budgetary constraints, specialized consultants and contractors is a familiar part of our process, and our Principal intensive firm assures a smooth, client oriented job -- qualities demonstrated by a diverse and repeat client base.
Though modernist in sensibilities, our location in Washington, D.C. has allowed us to explore traditional proportions and detailing, and discover unique design solutions that are appreciative of both. We are supportive of the building industry's trend toward sustainable products and use them appropriately.

The firm was founded in 1979 by Joseph Wnuk AIA, joined soon after by Steven Spurlock AIA. The partnership has evolved over the years from one that concentrated on residential projects to its present form which specializes in commercial buildings, institutional, educational and cultural facilities. Our residential component is now highly evolved, and the principals continue to treat these projects with special devotion.
In addition to numerous projects in the Washington D.C. area, we have also completed work in the states of Texas, Florida, Indiana, California and overseas in Portugal.
Our firm is especially proud of its commitment to the community and we strive to offer pro-bono services for arts and civic organizations when appropriate.
Our design quality has been recognized and honored with awards and publications over the years. In addition to receiving the AIA's local chapter awards, projects were acknowledged in other awards programs sponsored by the Washington DC Mayor's First Award for Excellence, the Restaurant Association, IIDA (International Interior Design Association), and others. The firm has also been featured in several publications, which include Home, Metropolitan Home, House Beautiful, and Metropolis magazines, and The Washington Post newspaper amongst others.
